Job description
OBJECTIVE/ SCOPE
To plan, control and coordinate all production activities to ultimately meet customer requirements as efficiently and effectively as possible. To schedule production orders in line with capacity and availability of resources and materials, and prioritise work to optimise the full use of all resources. To provide comprehensive planning support to all aspects of the operation.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
-Prepare suitable production plans and customer summaries using Microsoft Project and Excel respectively and maintain with latest updates obtained from manufacturing.
-Work closely with: manufacturing, material planners, buyers, project teams, stores, quality inspection & engineering to ensure orders are expediently progressed through the factory.
-Plan availability of machines, specify jobs, tools etc.
-Allocate people based on availability.
-Create works orders in SAP to translate the customer’s requirements in terms of drawings, BOM, quality plan etc into firm production instructions and ensure that work packs and essentials forms are available.
-Monitor and control all aspects of the production (and pre-production) processes to ensure a smooth, efficient process flow for each works order / assembly.
-Analyse production and quality targets and work with planning lead to establish & implement strategies to meet these.
-Analyse all new demand for assemblies, ensure new planned orders are added to plans with realistic dates and identify any ‘false’ demand.
-Advise on best practice in relation to make or buy strategy.
-Produce, analyse and advise on SAP-generated production reports as required.
-Be aware of and check on the current status of orders progressing through production, especially those behind or at risk to schedule.
-Advise project teams and management of any slippages likely to affect planned completions in timely manner and take action to mitigate the impact of such slippages.
-Advise QC inspectors of which materials need to be prioritised in line with production schedule, material shortage report and project need dates.
-When capacity and / or resources are scarce, be able to allocate and prioritise to minimise impact to business.
-Be able to smooth or level the allocation of resources to ensure current and future work can be executed when needed.
-Ensure all production data is accurate, i.e. manufacturing routings, actual hours booked to work, materials issued to jobs etc, and ensure all production orders are closed when work is complete to ensure correct information is always available for others to view.
-Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other organisational functions (e.g. engineering, tendering, R&D, HSE, Finance, HR etc).
-Ensure agreed objectives and targets are achieved.
-As necessary, perform other production-related duties which require essentially the same level of skill and responsibility.
-Ensure that all company procedures are complied with and all actions are auditable whilst maintaining the highest personal, professional and ethical standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
Desirable Requirements:
-Business degree or equivalent HND / HNC within relevant industry.
SPECIFIC TRAINING/ SPECIALIST SKILLS
Essential Requirements:
-Working knowledge of SAP or other ERP system (e.g. Oracle, JD Edwards).
-Proficiency in Word, Excel & Other MS Office Applications.
Desirable Requirements:
-Experience in production planning & demonstrable use of MRP system.
-Proficiency in planning software / applications / tools (e.g. MS Project, Primavera P3, SAP planning application).
-Basic understanding of engineering principles & drawings.
-An understanding of electronic components and / or printed circuit boards (PCB’s).
-Knowledge of electro-hydraulic subsea control-type equipment.
