We have an opening for a  9 - 12 month term/contract position for a Facilities Maintenance Project Manager 

As part of the Canadian Construction and Maintenance team, the Facilities Maintenance Project Manager (term position) provides input to the Manager of Facilities and Development to identify sustaining capital requirements, and assists in the execution of the Irving Oil Marketing (IOM) maintenance capital plan.  Oversees and facilitates the execution of all maintenance repairs for buildings and petroleum systems.  This person will work with the team to  manage maintenance capital replacement projects to ensure that all IOM facilities are operational and in compliance with all regulatory agencies while ensuring that IOM processes and standards are adhered to.

Travel requirement is 50% of the time (with seasonal fluctuations).


  • Receive, evaluate, dispatch maintenance service requests through approved vendors and benchmark their performance.  Communicate diplomatically and follow-up with vendors and stakeholdrs until issues are resolved.
  • Accurate and timely recordkeeping of changes to company assets.
  • Coordinate site closures/decommissioning, removal of underground petroleum equipment.
  • Identify areas of improvement in maintenance process and implement changes (vendor contracts, preventive maintenance, inspections programs, etc.)
  • Track and report monthly on spending and budgets in the department.
  • Maintenance Project Supervision.
  • Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, including rollouts and retrofit projects to existing network of retail and cardlock sites.  Work with local legislation to secure appropriate permitting.
  • Manage major maintenance projects and renovations at existing facilities (up to $500K approx.).  Be present at construction sites, inspect workmansip and develop on-site solutions should any issues arise.
  • Monitor and drive project schedule to ensure projects are completed on time and on budget.  Conduct post-mortem reviews to identify and implement process improvements and share wiht the team and stakeholders.
  • Maintain project files and payment applications, back-up documentation for chargebacks and claims.
  • Process and code purchase requisitions, purchase orders, and invoices in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to overall effectiveness of the department by performing other duties as required.
  • University degree in Engineering or related experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years construction or equivalent experience required.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawing sets (architectural, MEP's, etc.)
  • Knowledge of building maintenance needs and service requirements.
  • Knowledge of the practice, methods, materials, and equipment of the building trades.
  • Understanding of applicaable codes and standards in Canada (ON, QC, NS, NB, NL, PEI).
  • Excellent communication skills in English (oral and written).
  • French language skills preferred.
  • Must have strong computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Solid skills in Microsoft Project or other project scheduling softward.
  • Ability to analyze situations promptly and to determine proper course of action.
  • Oracle experience an asset.
