Job Title: Process Engineer

We are currently looking to fill the role of Process Engineer.

Duties include:

Strives to be the recognized technical expert of the assigned unit(s).

  • Maintains (compiles) industry best practices/knowledge from a technical standpoint.
  • Archives/catalogs unit history using appropriate document management system.
  • Establishes unit performance continuity between the shifts through routine communication and mentoring.
  • Provides technical input for new refinery feedstocks.
  • Maintains unit documents and tools (eg. UMT, Simulations, PHD, PFD, run length data).
  • Updates other teams of process changes (ie. Yield Accounting, LP, Planning, etc.)

Unit Health and Performance

  • Proactively manages unit performance and health to achieve business plan objectives.
  • Updates pertinent technical report/documents (ie. restriction reports, unit mass balance reports, performance updates).
  • Proactively communicates a strategy to manage unit health and performance.

Process Safety and Reliability Support

  • Upholds process safety and reliability standards.
  • Supports Process Safety Management Systems with technical expertise (ie. Hazard and Operability study (HAZOPS), Layer Of Protection Analysis (LOPAS) and Management of Change (MOC).

Problem Solving:

  • Utilises information and available resources to troubleshoot or to move from an existing state to a desired goal.
  • Identifies problems or constraints that could prevent the unit from meeting the operating plan or from running optimally.
  • Collects, analyzes and interprets pertinent data and solicits subject matter experts input as required.
  • Diagnoses, develops and tests a solution through collaboration with the area team.
  • Communicates with the appropriate parties and implements the solution in a timely manner.

Process Improvement Leader

  • Identifies opportunities for short and long term performance improvements.
  • Collects data from multiple sources.
  • Compares unit status with targets, constraints, and refinery priorities.
  • Develops a modified plan that will bring the unit to its most optimal state while maximizing profitability within the daily operating plan.
  • Identifies and supports opportunities for long term performance improvements and communicates these opportunities to refinery team specifically: provides turnaround support, project support, develops preliminary business case for improvement recommenations, provides solutions to remove bottlenecks/constraints aligned with IOR strategy.

 

Requirements:
  • B. Sc. Chemical Engineering; PEng.
  • Sound knowledge of complex engineering processes and facets of chemical engineering.
  • Experience in the organization and experience as a lead engineer on an assignment.
  • Minimum 5 years oil refinery experience.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills, computer skills, ability to prioritize and plan.
  • Effective communication skills, oral and written.
  • At times will be required to work a flexible work schedule.
