Irving Oil is a regional refining and marketing company serving customers in Eastern Canada and New England.  We offer challenging and rewarding employment opportunities throughout our company, and are always seeking committed and talented people.  We are currently looking for a Director - Environment, Health & Safety for our Irving Energy Distribution & Marketing Value Center, the distributor of heating oil, propane, Natural Gas and diesel products to residential and commercial customers throughout Atlantic Canada and Northern New England.


Irving Energy Distribution and Marketing is on a journey to become the industry leader in injury prevention, and leak prevention/leak management.  This position will provide the strategic direction across the company for Environment, Health & Safety matters.  Provide professionals that support the company in achieving its objectives.  The role is unique in that it requires an individual with broad industry and company knowledge coupled with change management skills.


The successful candidate will be responsible to: 


  • Develop strategy and implement the Environmental, Health and Safety Program.
  • Provide leadership to team across the company.
  • Develop and lead/implement the Operating Plan.  The Environment, Health & Safety Strategic Operating Plan focuses on the execution of critical processes including, but not limited to, incident management (MyOsh), Environment, Health & Safety training, reduction in recordable injuries, spill and leak prevention, compliance etc.
  • Trend and analyze patterns to determine focus areas and report on Company's performance.
  • Lead activities associated with reducing Environment, Health & Safety related costs and improving employee productivity.
  • Lead the performance management of team.
  • Travel required for vision communication and monitoring the Environment, Health & Safety progress as well as to sites to provide senior leadership support to incidents and investigations.
  • Minimum 7-10 years progressive management experience
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Degree, diploma in EHS and/or certification (CSP or CRSP) is an asset
  • Previous energy and petroleum experience is an asset
  • Well developed complex problem solving skills
  • Ability to multi-task as well as work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong decision making skills
  • Capability to lead change
  • Ability to efffectively work/communicate with all levels within the organization and influence stakeholders
  • Ability to champion Irving Energy's Environment, Health & Safety values, goals and objectives
  • Ablity to interpret and effectively communicate applicable laws, regulations and requirements
  • Ability to identify critical situations and respond accordingly
  • Most importantly the ablity to influence people who do not report directly to you.
