Job Title: Facilities Technician

The Facility Technician ensures the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the assets under their care as well as a positive work environment through professional conduct, strong communication, leadership and knowledge of plant operations.  To be successful and continuously improve the operation, the Facility Technician must fulfill several roles and responsibilities:  Safety Leader, Administrator and Maintenance Facilitator.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead by example in working safely and promote safe work practices of others within the operation to ensure a safe work environment
  • Ensure unit safety equipment is available and ready for service
  • Support and participate in the safety process
  • Monitor work being done in the plant to ensure safety in accordance with IOC policies and procedures
  • Maintain awareness of safety concerns and communicate to personnel working in the area
  • Maintain a safe work environment through good housekeeping
  • Ensure thorough communication of pertinent information through detailed, concise documentation and discussion
  • Develop clear and concise logs for communication of pertinent information
  • Review logs, Night Notes, Daily Order Book (DOB), etc. to ensure proper understanding of area status
  • Participate in shift meetings to discuss area status and personnel requirements in preparation for efficient operations
  • Use reference and reporting tools (e.g. Cintellate, Computer Maintenance Management System or CMMS, Documentum, email, etc.) to effectively capture and retrieve information
  • Maintain compliance with individual training requirements
  • Indentify equipment problems and initiate appropriate response (initiate work order request, contact Machinery Analysis Group, etc.)
  • Prepare equipment and perform handover to Maintenance as required
  • Monitor and aid in maintenance activities to ensure safe and efficient job execution
  • Receive equipment back from Maintenance and return it to service as required
  • Safely perform minor maintenance as required within IOC guidelines and personal capabilities
  • Perform unit rounds using available tools and senses to ensure a safe work environment and identify potential problems
  • Perform in-depth Equipment Care and Condition Monitoring rounds capturing hard data for use in enhancing asset reliability
  • use information observed to proactively correct potential problems
  • Complete all daily activities to ensure alignment and continuity of shift operations
  • Collect, test and record results of samples per sample schedule and as requested in accordance with IOC policies and procedures
  • Perform equipment and process adjustments as required and/or as directed by Operations Manager to troubleshoot and optimize plan operations
  • Proactively engage in continuous expansion of knowledge, skills and attributes through formal training as well as on-the-job experience
  • Associates or Bachelors degree in a related technical trade
  • Comfortability with taking ownership of work activities with focus on safety, reliability and profitability
  • Must be punctual, reliable and alert for all work-related activities
  • Ability to maintain awareness of and proactively respond to team needs
  • Must be a diligent worker with self-motivation
  • Able to maintain a healthy respect for the work environment and associated hazards practicing due diligence
  • Ability to recognize and manage challenging situations in one-on-one and in group environments
  • Must be able plan ahead, prioritize and manage time to effectively complete daily activities
  • Must have an open-mind and positive attitude
  • Must be mild-mannered and calm while effectively handling emergency matters
  • Must be able to display physical ability to climb ladders and stairs, handle tools and equipment, manipulate valves
  • Must be comfortable in dealing with heights, confined spaces, use of respiratory equipment, etc.
  • Must maintain physical and mental preparedness within the rigors of the shift work lifestyle
