Job Title: Logistics Specialist - Rail

We are regional market leader for refining and marketing in eastern Canada; operating a 300K bbl. /day refinery, a network of terminals and approximately 1000 retail outlets throughout Quebec, Atlantic Provinces and New England. Market conditions have presented the opportunity to establish operations in Western Canada that will be focused for the long term on developing and establishing an entrepreneurial team focused on profitable and efficient product acquisition and movement to and from Eastern Canada.

We are currently recruiting for a Rail Logistics Specialist to join our Irving Oil Team in Saint John. This key role will be responsible for the efficient movement of rail traffic related to crude oil product acquired in mid-continent (North America) to Saint John and the return of equipment to the west. As part of the Logistics Team this position plays an integral “troubleshooter” role for rail.


  • Participates collaboratively with various stakeholders in the efficient scheduling of supply to meet daily inventory requirement at the Saint John Refinery.
  • On a daily basis, review data base reporting outputs and interact with other members of the Rail Logistics Team to understand the “in the moment” status of rail traffic in the network. Access internal and external resources as required for context.
  • Identify current issues, potential risks, delays and bottlenecks that could impact the efficiency of the supply chain. Categorize issues on a daily basis and provide feedback to other stakeholders on the prioritization of issues.
  • Actively communicate with 3rd party service providers (Railroads) on issues, delays and bottlenecks and where necessary exercise influence to resolve issues on the basis of priority.
  • Make decisions on routing, loading and off-loading that contribute to the increased efficiency of the system.


  • College or other Post-secondary education in Operations or Logistics.
  • 3-5 years specific experience in logistics operations as a scheduler, dispatcher or coordinator. Specific rail experience is a definite asset.
  • Strong verbal communication skills, high energy level and ability to act quickly and decisively under pressure
  • Familiarity and user competence with basic data base and analytical tools.
  • Willingness to work a slightly non-traditional work schedule to meet time zone requirements of continental North America. Key
