Description:

Irving Oil, a regional energy processing, transporting and marketing company serving customers in New England and Eastern Canada, is looking for a Marketing Communications Specialist to join the team.  This position would be based in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada.

 

The Marketing Communications Specialist is responsible for managing specific marketing programs and projects and executing the various communications strategies as set forth by their manager:

 

  • Write, edit and proof read various marketing communications including agency creative, internally produced creative such as print advertising and signage, Irving web and social media content, internal communications, and customer communications, etc. specific to retail marketing
  • Work with Manager to assist in development and execution of marketing, promotional and advertising plans for specific programs
  • Maximize brand impact and effectiveness of all Marketing Sponsorships, i.e. Sports Marketing for this value center only
  • Ensure photographic coverage for publicity events and site/locations, manage photo archive and photo shoots to build library of “on brand” photos for use on web
  • Manage specific marketing events, trade shows, radio remotes, etc. and participates with Manager in developing impactful programs for growth areas that require increased brand awareness and marketing support specific to value center
  • Support IOM’s growth plans by generating earned media in IOM’s growth and established markets working with local media channels to generate publicity and creating enough interest for media channels to run stories while coordinating with IOCL PR
  • Participate with Manager and Web marketing Manager in developing impactful social media programs that will build communities on-line that will be loyal to the brand in conjunction with corporate PR

 

 

  • Handle all media inquiries for local, one-time, quick response-type incidents; for more material, multi response, on-going, cross-value center incidents or inquiries, immediately escalate to the appropriate Public Affairs representative
  • Write IOM related media releases, coordinate media interviews, coach spokespeople, respond to some related IOM media inquiries while coordinating with corporate PR
  • Collect, compile and maintain a media mentions archive; responsible for monitoring all press and information sources for IOM stories
  • Manage PR consultants as required in coordination with corporate PR
  • Manage and execute community/caring initiatives and manage community relations, public or customer events related to the IOM Marketing strategy
  • Assist Operations staff to encourage our business partners to be active champions with local charities or with community efforts 

 

Requirements:

Qualifications:

 

  • Degree in English, Business or Marketing
  • Must be creative and analytical
  • Minimum of five years of progressive experience including at least 3 years in similar role
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communications skills; exhibit exceptional grammar and editing skills
  • Analytical, research, understanding of business principal drivers
  • Must be enthusiastic and energetic with comfort ability of ambiguity and uncertainty
  • Must excel and perform in team-oriented environment; ability to work independently when necessary
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to build positive relationships
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Professional, self-starter
  • Excellent computer skills i.e. MS Office, both Mac and PC environments
